Flat style screens are free standing and are removed to start a fire then replaced.  The is made to cover the hearth opening.  They do not get attached to the fire place or hearth so are completly independant of the fire box area.

This screen fit under the mantel stone so it looked like one continuous piece.	(Click to enlarge) Heron screen details were 40" x 60" in size and forged iron repousse herons in a marsh, the herons were 8" tall.
